September and October look like they’re going to be good months for PlayStation Network, with three original titles dated for Sony Online Entertainment today. First up isRochard, the excellent-looking side-scroller puzzle platformerI previewedearlier this year; it’s out September 27, and will cost $9.99. Next up isPayday: The Heist, a squad-based first-person shooter that’s all about bank robberies and slow masks; it hits on October 4, and is $19.99. Finally,Sideways: New York, a 2D platformer set in a gritty, urban graffiti-stained world is out October 11 for $9....

Directional buttons just don’t cut it I’ve been playing a lot ofSonic Maniaover the past few days. It’s nice that I’m enjoying aSonicgame in 2017, and even more delightful that I get to enjoy it on the Nintendo Switch. Sonic Maniadoes all the right things. The controls are tight, the art is nostalgic but not pandering, and it reminds me of what I liked about Genesis-eraSonicgames. The one rather depressing thing it does for me is point out what other people have been saying for some time: the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con need a proper directional pad....

The interesting thing about this add-on, which is calledinFamous: First Light, is that it’s also a standalone piece for anyone that doesn’t own the full game. Bang bang Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm FestivalSwitchjust hit the scene, and as a long timeTaiko no Tatsujinplayer, I couldn’t resist. At first glance,Rhythm Festivaldoesn’t offer a ton of bells and whistles. The “story mode” really is propelled by a points/rank-up system, which provides you with additional kernels of dialogue with our hero, Don-Chan, and their relationship with other adorable characters. It’s extremely cute, and although it meanders a bit, it has a lot of heart to keep people interested: especially when it comes to families playing it together (which is what we did in our household)....

This isn’t even my final form Sony generally has pretty hefty console lifecycles. The PS2 lasted a really, really long time, like, 13 years until it was discontinued worldwide in fact, even if games stopped being produced for it on a mass scale.
