Carmack couldn’t work on VR at id Software, so he left

Doom 4 with a virtual-reality headset ‘would have been a huge win’ As much as I want John Carmack to do good work at Oculus VR, it was sad to see himdepart from id Software. In an interview withUSA Today, he elaborated on why he chose to leave instead of working at multiple companies simultaneously (because that’s an option for him). “I would have been content probably staying there [at id] working with the people and technology that I know and the work we were doing,” Carmack said....

Chained Echoes melds magic and mechs into a nostalgic new JRPG

Aiming for a Q4 2022 release across Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One Some games look so sweet, it doesn’t matter if they fall outside your everyday genres — you’re still drawn in. As someone who rarely invests 50-plus hours into turn-based JRPG comfort food, that’s how I seeChained Echoes, an upcomingSuper Nintendo-style adventurefrom Matthias Linda. It’s a world of dragons and mechs, and it looks fantastic. There’s a new trailer out today in collaboration withDeck13 Spotlight, the indie-boosting arm ofThe Surgedeveloper Deck13 Interactive, which also reppedCrossCode....

Closing up shop: Diablo III’s Auction House is officially offline

Moving on Diablo III‘s Auction House has seen its last new listing. As of today, the controversial marketplace exists only as a place for players to finish up their current auctions before the tab disappears altogether. Players have until June 24 — more than three months — to claim any gold or items. After that deadline, they vanish into the ether forever and can’t be obtained. Fresh from Codemasters comes this new trailer forColin McRae’s DiRT 2, highlighting a few of the game’s 100 events in nine countries across the globe. WhereThe Conduitis exciting because it promises to be the first fully featured online FPS on the Wii, andThe Grinderlooks promising for it’s co-op and horror/comedy combo,Gladiator A.D.’s claim to fame is being damn strange. It’s both ultra-violent and ultra-realistic, a combination that’s never been seen on the Wii before. It plays sort of likeBushido Blade, and also sort of likePunch-Out!!, but it’s actually nothing like either game in almost every way....
