Square Enix reduces losses but still in the red

?1.6 billion loss ain’t good news To say that Square Enix appears to be in a confusing position would be putting it mildly. It seems that includes the company’s financial situation, as the publisher posted its financial results for the second quarter of 2013 and whilst the losses are reduced, the company still booked a ¥1.6 billion ($16.2 million) loss. The company has “implemented a change in its development policy, and conducted a comprehensive review on work-in-progress game titles for the three-month period ended May 23, 2025....

Steam VR was updated because Beat Saber ‘experts’ were moving in ways that Valve didn’t’ think was ‘humanly possible’

Barry Allen is a fan In case you haven’t heard,Beat Saber, a VR rhythm game released in the middle of last year, is a bonafide hit. The gist is that you use two remotes (in each hand) to simulate virtual lightsabers, then slash cubes to the beat. It’s a simple overarching concept and they weren’t even the first to do it (I playedSoundboxingamong others, for several years before it), but they managed to break through and achieve a great deal of success in the otherwise limited market of VR....

Super Mario Run won’t be entirely ‘free-to-play’

Launch regions expanded, as well During a recentfinancial presentationthis past week, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima discussed the pricing structure for the upcoming mobile gameSuper Mario Run. While no concrete figure was given, Kimishima did mention that gamers will need to pay to unlock “all of the game content.” This is similar to how Nintendo labels some of their 3DS games as “free-to-start”; I’m not sure I’m a fan of that wording, but it is a bit more honest than the more traditional phrasing....

The future of realistic water in games? I hope so!

Position Based Fluids Words audibly exited my mouth when this GPU fluid simulation video cut to the action, but I can’t be sure they were comprehensible.
