Mists of Pandaria Thunder King update gets a fun trailer

Are you still playing World of Warcraft? Patch 5.2, a major content update forWorld of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, is nearly upon us, and Blizzard has a new trailer to celebrate. Lorewalker Cho lays down some phat poetry to get us in the mood for hot raid content, and a bunch of other stuff that’s set to hit in 5.2, like new mounts and pets. The content itself looks great, but I just love that it’s narrated by Jim Cummings, aka Darkwing Duck, aka Tigger, aka Mr....

Now’s a good time to buy Invisible, Inc.

Fresh code Klei has been killing it. I haven’t gotten around toInvisible, Inc.yet, but today’sSteam sale($11.99 until August 10) will remedy that. My boy Steven gave the turn-based stealth game a10 out of 10, which is a rare sight. He even dug it while it was still unfinished in Early Access. Even rarer! There’s something for current players, too, as the 11th update is now live. Besides bug fixing and balancing, the game has added more programs, starting room variations, and improvements (“Open single door hotkey – default is F,” “Item requirements always show”)....

Ori and the Blind Forest is a beautiful metroidvania

And it plays beautifully too Before I was able to playOri and the Blind Forest, Microsoft Studios producer Daniel Smith rattled off a list of influences for the game, which sets lofty, perhaps unreasonable, expectations. He cited the works of Hayao Miyazaki,Super Meat Boy,Limbo, andMetroid. Though each has achieved greatness in its own right, the grouping is a strange one. Imagine my surprise and delight to find that the influences are not only clear, but that they work wonderfully together....

Podtoid hits the Destructoid frontpage every Thursday! [Incredibly Important Note:The full title isHomelessMen Masturbating with Glow-in-the-Dark Paint, but that was too big for the Destructoid headline. I need you ALL to know this!] On this week’s Podtoid, the gang ponders the conglomeration of Disney and opens a planetarium to ponder the nature of the universe and give homeless men some honest work. We also chat about how pretty theHitman Collectionis, and angrily flick through aFire Emblemart book to try and find Jonathan Holmes....

Pretty good Halo marketing, Microsoft

Credit where it’s due A few days ago, Microsoft had aHalo 5mural painted on a building in London. This video shows the creation process. It’s nice, as these things tend to be — at least as nice as possible when it’s Master Chief’s head splayed across three stories. Sometime since then, hopefully in the thick of the night, someone“vandalized” it. The word “Traitor” is now scrawled on it in giant red letters....

Review: Undead Knights

Just when I was getting thoroughly sick of zombie games, along comes Tecmo with another one. Only, thisone turns the entire idea of zombie slaughter on its head and manages to do something surprisingly fresh with the whole theme. Take the minion-style gameplay ofOverlord, mix it up with someDynasty Warriorshack n’ slash, then sprinkle zombies over the whole thing. You now haveUndead Knights. Oh, and don’t forget the ludicrious hair metal soundtrack....

Seeing ships sliced apart in Star Citizen is satisfying

Improved damage tech demonstrated As a casual observer ofStar Citizen, I’ve struggled to keep up to date with the game’s open development. It can be overwhelming. That’s why I appreciate this recent video covering the damage model — it’s accessible. Blowing up spaceships? Yeah, cool, I’m right there with you. The real fun starts at about a minute in when entire chunks of a ship are shot offPatchwork Heroesstyle. (Do you remember that game?...

Soda Drinker Pro/Vivian Clark is a wildly playful devil may care romp

A tactless blast of unbridled imagination Earlier this year, I did a little volunteer play testing forVivian Clark,an approximately 12 hour long game hidden inside of another game calledSoda Drinker Pro, I also donated a few sounds that my 7-month-old son had made for a 10-second-long sequence that’s hidden even deeper in the thing, so deep that 90% of people who play the game will probably never see it. This all came together after I spoke to the game’s developer aboutKanye West for a video Dtoid put out last year....

Sony’s Scott Steinberg: no ‘senior citizen’ gaming happening here

Like your console gaming experiences hardcore, with nary a Wiimote in sight? The latest from SCEA’s Scott Steinberg ought to be music to your ears. In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Steinberg addressed issues such as future plans for the PS3 and why Sony is uninterested in reeling in the “senior” demographic. Direct from the interview: “I think the notion of that controller is a non-trivial point that you’ve brought up, that control and that familiarity is like comfort food – from my perspective, we lead, we don’t follow,” he said....
