Birds fly, pigs die

There have been 22Angry Birdsgames since 2009, which is a fact thatWikipediajust told me. That’s a lot of mileage out of hucking birds at pigs, swine-icide and demolition by avian assault. For its next game, players will have a much closer view of the carnitas carnage.

Rovio just announcedAngry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs. It’s being developed byResolution Games, a Swedish studio that specializes in making VR titles for casual audiences.Angry Birds VRis set for a release in “early 2019,” and no price has been set. It’ll launch on “all major VR platforms,” but none were explicitly mentioned; we can probably expect Oculus Rift, Vive, and Google Daydream at a minimum.

This isn’t the first timeAngry Birdshas dipped its talons in the waters of non-mobile. A couple months back, Resolution Games released atrailer for anAngry Birds“first-person slingshot”— an AR attempt atAngry Birds. It’s unclear if that’s still in production, but there’s obviously a decent working relationship between Rovio and Resolution. In a few months, we’ll see if the addictive nature of the mobile games transfers over to virtual reality.
