Good news, everyone!Futurama, the twice-canceled sci-fi masterpiece, is coming back (yay!) as a mobile game (awe). Fox Digital Entertainment announced it is teaming up with German developer Wooga Games to makeFuturama: Game of Drones. The title will mark the Planet Express crew’s second foray into video games after 2003’sFuturamafor PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
If you’re worried the game will follow in the footsteps ofThe SimpsonsandFamily Guywith one of those god-awful city building apps, fret not. According to the developer:

The game, titledFUTURAMA: Game of Drones, takes players on a journey with the Planet Express crew as they fight a desperately imbalanced trade war against longtime shipping rival MomCo. While delivering dangerous cargo to hazardous locations under ill-advised circumstances, players connect groups of delivery drones to solve an array of fiendish puzzles as they venture into iconic environments from theFUTURAMAuniverse.
Okay, so it sounds like aCandy Crush Sagaclone. Given that developer Wooga Games’portfoliofeatures mostly knock-offs of other, more popular games, that shouldn’t be much of a surprise. In fact, the only reason this game is worth talking about is because of who is writing it.

According to Wooga, the game will feature an original storyline from David Grossman, Jonathan Myers, and Patric Verrone. Grossman, for those unfamiliar with the name, helped create such classic titles asThe Secret of Monkey Island,Day of the Tentacle, andSam & Max. Jonathan Myers worked on something calledGame of Thrones: Ascent, while Patric Verrone served as a producer forFuturamaand penned some of its most well-known episodes, including:The Sting,A Fishful of Dollars, andThe Problem with Popplers. He also wroteThat’s Lobstertainment, so you know… you get the good with the bad.
There is currently no word on when the game will launch nor if it will feature the original voice cast. It is also unclear if the game will include blackjack and hookers.
