Softwood is sort of the “default” wood that you find inCoral Island. From the moment you hack down your first tree, that’s what will inevitably be filtered into your pockets. Eventually, you’ll need to find the firmer cousin. So, where do you find hardwood inCoral Island?

First, you’re going to need aSilver Axe, which won’t be completely obtainable at the start of the game. You’ll need to get really lucky opening geodes or digging deeper down into the mine (Floors 21-40 in the Earth mine). Then you’ll need to smelt the silver ore into bars, take them to the blacksmith, combine them with (soft) wood, and bam; you have an axe that can cut hardwood.

Now, where to find them? Well, that has a predictable answer. The best place to find hardwood is in the forest. However, you’re looking for a particular resource node. That is fallen logs. They have a darker look to them. I’ll provide a screenshot below.

There you have it. Hack at these bad boys with a silver axe, and you’ll be filling your pockets with hardwood.

If that’s not enough, you might get lucky when breaking apart boxes, but for a more reliable source, the forest is the way to go.

By the way, do you know the difference between softwood and hardwood? Softwood comes from gymnosperm trees that have needles, like pine or redwood. Hardwood comes from broad-leafed trees like balsa or beech. Contrary to what you might expect, hardwood is actually the porous one, whereas softwood has no pores. This has absolutely no bearing on anything, but I figured this was one of the few opportunities I might have to talk about lumber.
