Also, Kojima laughs at tragedy

Hideo Kojima was on stage at Sony’s Tokyo Game Show conference, talking at length about the upcomingMetal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Idle chat led into the same footage we’ve seen quite a bit before, but for some reason the stream spent like five minutes zoomed out, showing a big ‘PlayStation’ logo, and obscuring the footage. I guess they figured it was old news.

Once we got back to direct feed, we saw gameplay of Snake infiltrating an armed facility. At one point, he yanked a guard out of a tower and proceeded to operate a spotlight. For some reason, this struck me as interesting. Same with the first-person jeep driving. Though everything pales in comparison to Snake’s pert butt wiggling around on the ground.

In terms of newer additions, we saw the slow motion that accompanied the guard’s alert phase and floating exclamation point. I still don’t know how I feel about that, but it doesn’t seem to beSplinter Cell: Conviction-levels of painting targets and the game playing for you, or anything. There was also a heavily used tactic similar toBatman Arkham‘s “detective mode” that illuminated guards.

One short bit that had Snake walking between rainswept, wind beaten tents was really cool and looked rather amazing, visually, even on a stream. Kojima also laughed when Snake approached a prisoner huddled in fear. The monster.

A battle scene in Battlefield 6 Open Beta

I’m probably missing a lot amidst all the conversations I can’t understand, so stay tuned for more possible details onMetal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Maybe Dale will wind up playing it later today.
