Radical Entertainment has responded tonews of its shutdownvia the studio’sofficial Facebook page. It has thanked fans for their support following the unfortunate situation, and has also promised that the PC version ofPrototype 2will be arriving as planned.

“This morning Radical Entertainment went through a significant reduction in staff,” said the company last night. “We’re very proud of what we achieved with thePROTOTYPEfranchise, but unfortunately, the Blacklight virus didn’t spread as far as it could. For PC gamers, rest assured that the PC version ofPROTOTYPE 2is still going to launch on July 24th as planned.

“And a special ‘thanks’ to thePROTOTYPEArmy and all our extremely loyal and passionate fans for supporting Radical Entertainment. We couldn’t have come this far without you.”

This morning, the studio posted another message, with more gratitude for the “outpouring” of support.

“Thanks again to everyone for the outpouring of support. Just a reminder that the PC version ofPROTOTYPE 2is indeed, still coming on July 24th as planned, but please understand that updates/posts to Facebook over the next few days may be a bit light as we gain our bearing after today.”

This industry is so damn broken.Prototype 2was the best selling game in North America when it launched back in April, but still managed to perform so underwhelmingly in Activision’s eyes that the studio is now in the can. So yet another studio bites the dust because it couldn’t survive the toll that big budget game development exacts.
