This is the best news I have read since the last time I said something was the best news ever.EGM reportsthat Replay Games has acquired theLeisure Suit Larryproperty and will release an HD remastered version of the originalLeisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizardsnext year across every platform they can get the thing to appear on. If that proves successful, the team intends to remakethe entire seriesof classic adventure games Sierra On-Line published (possibly even the fabledLeisure Suite Larry 4: The Missing Floppies) as well as develop new titles for the franchise.

“But Conrad,” you say. “You hate the practice of re-releases and decry it at seemingly every turn. AndLeisure Suit Larrymay be one of your favorite series of all time, but remember the last few games? Why not just piss on Larry Laffer’s grave while you’re at it?”

You’re right.Magna Cum Laudewas pretty depressing, even more so onceBox Office Bustreleased and made it seem like a pretty good game by comparison. But remaking the series means versions of the second and third titles with a graphical user interface, finally making the heart of the series accessible to a whole new generation of players who would roll their eyes at an antiquated text parser.

Replay Games has something else that Larry hasn’t had in a long time; respect for Larry. Replay’s CEO Paul Trowe started his career at Sierra On-Line and has been working to acquire the rights toLarryfor a decade. Now that he has them, Replay is doing right by the lovable loser and have brought on series creator Al Lowe to return to the franchise he made a household name.

I lack the words to express how excited I am at the news that Al Lowe is making games again. His comedic voice and talent for puzzle design are things I have sorely missed. Take my money, Replay. Take it now.
