Resident Evil 4 Remake, the most recent entry in the iconic survival horror series, was undoubtedly one of the best and most successful games of 2023. Curiously enough, Capcom just confirmed that this title is still doing quite well sales-wise, even more than a year after its initial release.

Via the officialCapcom Dev 1 Twitter/X account, the company revealed that, as of May 17, 2025,Resident Evil 4 Remakehas sold over 9 million units worldwide and thanked the 9 million-plus agents (players) for their support. This announcement came with a brand-new, beautiful illustration of some of the game’s antagonists, like Ada Wong, Jack Krauser, Bitores Méndez and Ramón Salazar, playing bingo together.

This new milestone means thatResident Evil 4 Remakeis slowly but surely catching up toother incredibly successful games in the seriesin terms of worldwide sales, including the one that came right before it, 2021’sResident Evil Village, which hit 10 million units sold in 3 years, and the originalResident Evil 4, which achieved 13.20 million units sold across many platforms during the mid-2000s. Considering that everyone who experienced this survival horror/action masterpiece ended up loving it, there’s no doubt thatResident Evil 4 Remakeis going to become one of the best-sellingResident Evilgames in the near future.

What’s next after Resident Evil 4 Remake?

The reveal of the new sales figures forResident Evil 4 Remakewas both surprising and exciting, but it has also left many fans wonderingwhat the next game in the series is going to be and when Capcom might announce it. After all, the company has been consistently pumping out newResident Eviltitles over the last few years, so 2025 seems like the perfect year to reveal (and maybe even release) another one.

It’s important to remember thatCapcom has already announced that a new gamedirected by Koshi Nakanishi (Director ofResident Evil 7) is currently in development. We don’t know much about this project, but it’s very likely that this is going to becomeResident Evil 9, or however the company decides to name the follow-up toResident Evil Village. However, it may take a long time for this game to come out, so it’s always possible that Capcom will try to release other projects before that.

For example, we may also get more remakes before the next mainline entry, andsome ideas floating around in the fan base right now includea remake ofResident Evil 5, a polarizing entry from 2009 that never lived up to its predecessor, a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, considered by many to be the real third entry in the franchise, or a dual remake of bothResident Evil 1andResident Evil 0. Regardless of what Capcom ends up going for, I’m sure that it’s going to have the same high quality as all of its recentResident Evilprojects, and it’s also going to sell millions of units worldwide.
