IfJohn Wick Hexdidn’t scratch that Gun Fu itch, you may want to take a glance at Nekki’s upcomingSpine – This is Gun Fu. Anew trailerforSpinedropped out of the Future Game Show yesterday, showcasing the Gun Fu moves you can use on enemies and bosses.

John Wickfans looking for the video game equivalent of close-quarters gunplay and marital arts may want to take note. Judging by the latest trailer,Spineis certainly gearing itself up as theWickgame that isn’t. Guns, acrobatics, parkour, and kicking dudes in the face before shooting and then kicking them again are on the table for the cyberpunk-themed action game. There’s a lot packed in, and we haven’t even covered the boss fights yet.

Bringing a foot to a gunfight

The trailer blends gameplay and cutscenes, and it’s admittedly a bit tough to pinpoint where one begins and another begins. I suppose that’s a point in the game’s favor, as Gun Fu is predominantly known for being, as the kids would say, “cinematic AF.”

The footage showcases protagonist Redline as she cracks jaws and noses while flipping dudes off ledges to wild camera angles. On that note, the game may even have someSifu-esque moments where the camera flips to a side view for some intense hallway combat.

Spine - Boss battle

ButJohn Wickis still the primary source influencing the game. The trailer features a track by Le Castle Vania, a composer who contributed to three of the films, as one of several artists attached to the game’s soundtrack.

Right, the boss fights. In the trailer, we can see at least two battles against some serious big bads. Most obvious of all is the guy in the power loader-like exo suit, whose right arm is a massive machine gun. He understood the script. The other appears to be a cyborg ninja who attacks you with a rifle and an array of gadgets. You fight her in an arena similar to the bank fromThe Matrix, which I have an inkling is deliberate.
