Time keeps on splittin’, splittin’, splittin’

Early this year,TimeSplittersfans got some decent news when it was announced that Crytek, owner ofTimeSplittersdeveloper Free Radical, was okaying a venture by fans and some former Free Radical employees to mash up the original games into a new, multiplayer-focused shooter,TimeSplitters Rewind. It’s notTimeSplitters 4, but it’s something. Something that may not just be confined to PC, either. It’s in development for PlayStation…4 now.

Speaking toCinemaBlend, project lead Michael Hubicka said, “We’re actually going to go ahead and start development [ofTimesplitters Rewind] on PlayStation 4. Just because we’re pretty confident Crytek’s going to say go ahead and do it,” noting, “It’s mostly just us waiting on Crytek’s legal department to give us the go ahead.”

The project is aiming high. On its website, arecent posteven talks about cross platform play between the PS4 and PC. That same post also noted the planned late 2013 alpha testing might more realistically come middle or late 2014.

Do you have time to revisit a stitched together, modernized version of the original series or have you split from that fan club?  I’m interested in rewinding the clock and seeing ifTimeSplittersstill holds up. It could be an easy way for Crytek to gauge interest in a revival. Does the possibility of a PS4 version do anything for you?
