Fans ofThe Legend of HeroesRPG series have been pining for a remake of the originalThe Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. The good news is, they are getting exactly what they wanted. The bad news is, if you blinked during today’s Nintendo Direct you wouldn’t even know it was a thing, as the reveal was casually inserted in the middle of a sizzle reel during today’s Nintendo Direct.

For proof of its existence, skip to 24:26 in the Partner Showcase video and you’ll see about 10 seconds of the remake, apparently titledThe Legends of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st. It’s part of a brief sizzle reel that also shows a newStar Wars: Huntersseason, theS.T.A.L.K.E.R. Trilogy,Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, and upcoming updates to several live service games. Oh, and it’s sandwiched between full-reveal trailers forGoat Simulator 3andSpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game.

The Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky the 1st

It’s an odd reveal for such a highly anticipated remake. As a fan of the series, I quickly looked around for any information I could find aboutThe Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st. I couldn’t findanythingother than several threads of other fans of the series who were equally as confused.

“I will never forgive them for announcing this in a montage. But hype,” said Steamy Manateeover on ResetEra, where a thread just over an hour old on the topic has already reached seven pages worth of comments. I found a comment fromBloomberg Reporter Jason Schreieras well that sort of summed up my thoughts: “I cannot believe they just casually dropped this in a sizzle reel and gave full spots to Sponge Bob and fitness boxing.”

Fans over on the/r/Falcom/ subredditseem equally as puzzled but excited, with several posts mentioning the subtle announcement with hundreds of comments and upvotes.

Despite the shadow announcement, everyone seems to be in agreeance that they liked what they saw. What makes it odd is that this isn’t just some slight graphical update remaster, but rather a full-fledge remake. The originalTrails in the Skywas isometric 2D, yet this is a fully 3D remake.
