Activision’s pitch forSkylanders: Spyro’s Adventurehas been met with some derision from gamers, and it’s not surprising. The idea of plugging toys into a thing to interact with a videogame seems tacky as anything but … I kinda dig it.
I thinkSkylandersreminds me of my childhood. I grew up in the nineties, so gimmicky plastic crap essentially ruled my mind. Be it Mini Boglins, Barcode Battlers, or Tamagotchi, I was all about newfangled silliness that were manufactured purely to be collected in their hundreds.Skylandersreminds me of that, I can’t help but feel suckered in.

Even the designs, stuck between edgy and cute, remind me of an era where Monster In My Pocket littered the shelves at Woolworths. I can’t help being strangely excited for it.
