Zombies. Shooting. Multiplayer co-op. Let’s face it, it’s been done to death (or should that be “un-death”?) The last major attempt at such a title was the miserable flop that wasOverkill’s The Walking Dead, but Focus Entertainment are hoping to see much more positive results with their upcomingWorld War Z,which launches on multiple platforms next week.

Based on the book and movie of the same name,World War Zwill feature a team of survivors living on a knife-edge, trying to survive a zombie apocalypse. Players will work together to defend their posts, using a variety of weaponry to lay waste to hordes, and I meanhordes, of rotting flesh. A new trailer, which you may check out below, gives us an overview ofWorld War Z’s action.

There’s some very impressive crowd tech going on, and multiplayer games always raise a smile in the right environment, but it can’t be denied that “co-op zombie shooter” has well run its course. Here’s hoping that Focus’ new release will find ways to inject new life, uhh… death, into the tired format.
